Building an off-grid winery

Silvertonś solar powered winery

We love the wildness that springs from the earth within moments of neglect. Nature brings weeds, brambles, trees, buzzards, crickets and lizards that scurry and rustle as you wander the unkempt field’s edge.

Why destroy that with infrastructure tied to grids of power and communication? When we decided to construct our winery, it had to be a building that touched the earth gently.

We built in wood, with the lightest of steel cladding. We salvaged windows and doors from demolished buildings and bought end-of line and surplus materials. We built a self sufficient, solar-powered winery that looks after itself, us and our wine, without burdening the earth.
