2000 years of history at Silverton

Drinking, Anglo-saxon style

Silverton is a village nestled in the hills of the Exe Valley in Devon, England. Like many in the region, its origins stretch back many centuries, with evidence of neolithic farming visible in the land. The Domesday book of 1068 shows Silverton was in the largest 20% of settlements.

The Silverton badge on every bottle is founded on saxon art. Cast in zinc, they will be re-used, a commitment to a sustainable future, with an aesthetic connection to the past.

Jordan d'Exeter is the first house to make Silverton Wine, named after an ancestor of a founder of Silverton Vineyard: Jordan d'Exeter, a Norman Knight from the de Courcy family, who controlled nearby Exeter and surrounding lands in the 12th c.

Wine was made in England then, perhaps on the same slopes Silverton Vineyard is planted now. Jordan was part of the Norman conquest of Ireland, where he built a castle and  monastery and founded the clan Jordan, of which Ivan Jordan, a founder of Silverton Vineyard, is a descendant.
