Sustainable Winemaking at Every Stage

Sustainability has been central to the development of Silverton vineyard and wine. We minimise direct impact on the environment from resources, emissions and waste output from growing grapes and making wine. We consider the Silverton production holistically and expect to develop and enhance positively the ways we touch the earth and its inhabitants.

Our principles of sustainability so far are:

  1. Grow grapes in harmony with the land: low density with plenty of room for biodiversity in the vineyard. No spraying of herbicides or insecticides.

  2. Use off-grid energy and resources as much as possible.

  3. Make wine entirely on site, eliminating food miles incurred during the production process.

  4. No single-use plastics in our products.

  5. Re-use bottles - thatś why the badge is metal.

  6. Travel to and from the vineyard sustainably whenever we can by bicycle and bus.

  7. Use pre-loved equipment where we can.

  8. Source, develop and maintain our equipment from local engineers and suppliers.

  9. Contract people from our local community when we can.

  10. Stay small, close and focused on what we do.
